Police in Aberdeen were rushed to outside the McDonald's on the city's Union Street last night - to reports a man had a gun.
A 47 year old was detained at the scene just after 7 - with the weapon found to be a replica.
Inspector Simon Reid said: "Police Scotland received information at around 7pm yesterday evening (Monday August 28, 2017) regarding a member of the public being in possession of an offensive weapon in the Union Street area. Officers attended and detained a 47-year-old man within minutes.
"The object in question was recovered and is subsequently being analysed to determine its authenticity and whether legislation covers the possession of the item. I must stress that at no stage was there any threat to the public and that the situation was contained quickly.
"Enquiries into this incident are ongoing and the man has been released pending further investigation."
