A police motorcycle has been involved in the first crash of this year's Jim Clark Rally.

The uniformed rider made a splash at the Langton Mill water crossing - which returns to the Scottish Borders event this weekend, following an absence of a number of years.

Spectators captured the officer taking a tumble on the slippery surface after following the safety car round the bend on Friday evening.

More than a hundred cars had earlier set off from the ceremonial start in Duns, with motorsport fans lining the street to show their support.

Local driver Euan Thorburn admitted the recent rain had "thrown a spanner in the works". But he told us: "Being local it's great to see so many folk out there, it's such a good event for the area."

The service area has also been moved to Thorburn Yard in Station Road after the weather turned the usual field into a quagmire.

Isla Campbell (pictured below), from the Jim Clark Cafe and Bistro, said: "It's a great event to have here in Duns.

"Personally, I'm noticing a lot more people this year, which is all really, really good."

Such is the demand for accommodation this weekend, it's reported some people are renting out their spare bedrooms for the duration of the three-day closed roads rally.

The crowd could be heard gasping in disbelief as the police motorcyclist took an early dip.

Janie Orr, who filmed whats being described as the first crash of the weekend, said of the officer: "He was absolutely fine and gave us a big wave afterwards 😅."
