Police appeal for information after body found in Ballater water

Police are appealing for witnesses after the body of a man was found in the River Dee near Ballater bridge.

The discovery was made around 12.15pm on Sunday.

Officers has closed the bridge whilst enquiries were carried out.

The 61-year-old’s death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are continuing to carry out enquiries to establish the full circumstances and would like to speak to anyone who was in the area between Saturday evening and Sunday.

“If you live in the town, were walking or visiting the area and saw something that might help us then please get in touch.”

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1177 of Sunday, 19 January, 2025.
