Police and Firefighters to battle it out on Cove Rangers new pitch for charity
Teams of both firemen and police officers are set to do battle on the football pitch today, in support of The Archie Foundation.
The first ever battle of the badges is set to take place at Cove Ranger’s new home ground – Balmoral Stadium.
Police Scotland will face off with The Scottish Fire Service, both with squads of 15 players.
Kick-off is 2pm at Cove’s new Wellington Circle base.
ARCHIE foundation is the official charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. All money raised through the match will go towards helping local sick kids and their families.
Funds could go to the likes of purchasing specialist equipment, paying for staff training or brining in toys for the kids in hospital.
Over £3000 has already been raised through the justgiving page alone.
Money is also being raised through sponsorship and ticket sales.
In what will be just the second match at Balmoral – following the Aberdeen FC trust game last night – the teams will be playing for the chance to be crowed the inaugural ‘Battle of the Badges’ winner.
We spoke to Kev Lynch of Police Scotland:
“I there is going to be competitive players in both ranks. I’ve been in the Police ten years and been involved in the football teams all that time and we’ve never actually played the firemen.”
Each player will be assigned a mascot, all of whom are either current or former patients at the kid’s hospital, who benefit from facilities and equipment provided by Archie.
Kev will be accompanied by his mascot Millie. Kev said:
“I think it’s brilliant, and I think it’s humbling for ourselves as the players, getting to meet these kids.”
In terms of the result, Kev had no doubt about his prediction:
“It’s going to be close I think, but obviously a Police win."
