The death of a puppy in Aberdeen has sparked a petition to hold the owners of aggressive dogs to account.

9-month-old cavapoochon Ziggy was attacked by another dog which was off the leash on Sheddocksley playing fields.

Ziggy was given various surgeries and treated at a specialist bet but later died of his injuries.

Owner Toni Bennett says her whole family - and the community - is heartbroken.

She says local woman Izabella Jaruszewska got in touch with her about starting a petition after hearing about what happened.

Izabella has told Northsound News she has heard of several similar incidents in the Granite City recently, and feels police don't have enough powers to make sure owners of dogs which are aggressive to other pets are kept under control.

She wants to make sure they are kept on the lead, or only exercised in secure areas.
