Bosses at Peterhead's prison museum say the visitor attraction risks closure by March if they don't receive financial support soon.

Operations Manager Alex Geddes has written to the First Minister to plea for help as rising running costs paired with the impact of Covid leaves the former prison on the brink.

The museum has only been open for ten of the last 18 months due to restrictions.

And even when open the attraction has had to stick to strict regulations.

"We actually looked at the three months prior to Covid, November, December and January and the same for this past November, December and January" Mr Geddes told Northsound News.

"We are actually operating at 83% down to normal."

Mr Geddes tells us that the rises in energy costs are also set to be another massive blow.

"The main crux for me, it's all about the team.

"We've got the buildings, that's nice and it's unique in many ways, but it's the staff that makes the whole experience a memorable one.

"If i was to lose my staff, it would be for me the end of the world, I'll never replace them."

In the letter to Nicola Sturgeon Mr Geddes states:

"As you may imagine I now face some extremely difficult decisions due to the monetary impact the restrictions and messaging from the Scottish Government have placed on the business.

"and now I make a plea that support for tourism is significantly increased and with immediate effect"
