Serial killer Peter Tobin's ashes have been scattered at sea, after no relatives came forward to claim his body.

The 76-year-old died in Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary on October 8, after falling ill at HMP Edinburgh.

He was serving a whole life order for the murders of Angelika Kluk, Vicky Hamilton and Dinah McNicol.

The local authority assumes responsibility when a body is not claimed.

In a statement, Edinburgh City Council said: "On October 13, 2022, the remains of Peter Tobin were cremated.

"Ashes from the cremation were dispersed into the sea.

"The council's thoughts are with the victims of his crimes, and their loves ones."
