Former Dundee and Aberdeen midfielder Patrizio Billio has died aged 48.

His death was confirmed by AC Milan on Twitter.

A statement read: "Yesterday Patrizio Billio left us prematurely, who grew up in our youth sector and has been the coach of our football school in Kuwait since 2011.

"The entire Rossoneri family clings to the pain of their loved ones.

"Rest in peace, Patrick."

The Italian started his career at Milan, though he never made a senior appearance for the club.

He signed for Dundee in 1999, enjoying three years at the Dens Park side, before moving onto Aberdeen for free in August 2002.

Billio only stayed for half a season at the Dons, departing for Serie B side Livorno in December.
