Funso Ojo considered quitting football before re-igniting Dons career
The Belgian says his rejuvenation under Stephen Glass has helped him enjoy the game again.
Aberdeen midfielder Funso Ojo says he might have ended up quitting the game, had Stephen Glass not brought him back into the fold at Pittodrie.
The Belgian had been out of favour under former Manager Derek Mcinnes, and spent the second half of last season on loan with Wigan Athletic.
Despite many, including Ojo himself, thinking he wouldn't have a future at the club under Glass, he impressed in pre-season and has found himself playing further up the field.
Ojo scored his first goal for Aberdeen on Sunday in a draw against Hearts at Tynecastle.
Speaking after the stalemate he said:
"If I'm honest, I told my missus let's just go back home and we'll see what happens.
"I was kind of almost done with the game if I'm being really honest.
"Obviously the joy has to be there, so I'm not just gonna extend my football career unhappily."
English League Two club Salford City had an interest during the off-season for Ojo, but the Belgian admits it wasn't the move for him.
He was ready to see out the remaining year of his contract and then re-asses his options, saying:
"It wasn't really a difficult decision (to turn the move down) because I still had a year left, it's a good contract, so it's not something you just give up easily.
"It was an easy decision for me just to sit this contract out, even if I wasn't playing."
The 29-year-old doesn't feel as though he has to stay in football.
He revealed post-match that had he decided to stop playing, he has other career paths he could take, he said:
"Over the years I've used my time wisely, I've done some things in real estate, I've done a PT (Personal training) course as well, so I've got options and I was willing to explore those options - but that's not the case now and I'm still a footballer."
