Deirdre Michie, the Chief Executive of Oil and Gas UK says safety - and energy transition - both remain major focuses for the industry as a whole.

Michie said that a meeting yesterday would seek to find ways of reducing hydrocarbon releases on rigs.

She also says that the past year has shown slow but steady progress of the industry in the north east - ahead of this evening's Oil and Gas UK Awards - held at P&J Live.

She says:

"We have made progress, and we are still seeing industry performance improving, but there is still a lot of pressure on the supply chain which we are very conscious of and focused on."

"We are also an industry that is really getting after the challenges around energy transition - in fact one our awards this year recognises this, recognising companies that have made strides in this area."

"Health and safety of our operations is key, it's a fundamental part of who we are as an industry."
