Travel changes during Offshore Europe
Last updated 3rd Sep 2017
Temporary road closures and restrictions are now in place on streets around and near the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre for this year’s SPE Offshore Europe Conference and Exhibition.
Northsound 1 will have the latest Travel Updates across the conference period. Listen live online, download our mobile apps for Apple or Android or hear us on 96.9 FM, 97.6 FM and on Digital Radio. Updates will also be posted to Twitter.
The restrictions are in place to assist with traffic flow around the city and delegates are encouraged to use the park and ride from the Beach Esplanade, free shuttle buses from hotels, public transport, or share cars wherever possible. The Bridge of Don Park and Ride bus service will be running but there will be limited parking spaces available.
“We do have to put restrictions in place for roads near the AECC to help traffic flow and we would advise people to avoid the area if possible and find an alternative route, and for those attending the conference, they should use public transport where possible.” Aberdeen City Council Co Leader Councillor Jenny Laing
As usual, additional car parks will be open at the Innovation & Energy Park close to the AECC however, motorists should be aware there are likely to be delays in using these on exiting the event.
Traffic orders are now in place and will remain until 10pm on Saturday 9 September.
- During this time, there will be a prohibition of waiting at any time on the south and west sides of The Esplanade between Ellon Road and Accommodation Road, and also at several bus stops set out on the north and east side of the Esplanade. There will also be a suspension of the width restriction on the Esplanade.
- Claymore Drive will be made one-way and the permitted direction of travel will be in a clockwise direction.
- Exploration Drive will be made one-way between its eastern junction with Claymore Drive and Technology Park roundabout and the permitted direction of travel will be westbound only.
- Conference Way will be closed to vehicles with the exception of taxis and authorised vehicles, and the bus lane on Parkway East from Exhibition Avenue to Ellon Road, and on the A90 Ellon Road, Aberdeen, approaching Parkway East, will be suspended.
- There will be a prohibition of waiting on the grass verge between Intown Road and Ellon Road and on the grass verge between Intown Road and Parkway, and there will also be a prohibition of loading or unloading at any time on Exhibition Avenue, Parkway East, and the east side of Ellon Road, between its junctions with Parkway East and King Robert’s Way.
