North East school pupils learn their SQA results
There's been improvements across the board in Aberdeen.
School pupils across the North East are receiving their SQA results this morning.
Like last year, the process of testing has been different due to the pandemic - with exams once again scrapped in favour of teacher assessment with regular testing throughout the year.
But the results still hold just as much importance for the kids on the end of the text or letter.
Aberdeen City Council have released dating showing that young people in Aberdeen schools are performing well.
The results showed that the overall number of presentations in 2021 increased by 826 entries from 2020 while the number of pupils entered increased by 185 from 2020.
Those pupils achieving grades A-C in National 5, Highers and Advanced Highers have all gone up.
The Nat 5 attainment rate in the City goes from 80.15% up to 85.75% with Highers making an even bigger jump from 80.70% to 86.54%, and Advanced Highers increased to 90.92% from 86.11% in 2020.
Councillor M T Malik said: “I am delighted to see such a huge improvement in our National 5 Higher and Advanced Highers this year. I want to congratulate all, of our young people who worked so hard to achieve such an improvement in our results
Councillor Malik added: “This year has again been very challenging due to Covid-19 but it is a testament to our young people that they have risen to the challenge and produced excellent results.
"I want to also thank our education team, Head teachers, teachers, school support assistants and our backroom staff for putting in place conditions within and out with the school environment that allowed our young people to learn despite Scottish Government Covid-19 restrictions.
"Innovation is at the heart of everything we do and none more so than this year when our Education Service used digital interventions to ensure home learning was supported even in those family homes which did not have access to Wi-Fi.”
Aberdeenshire Council have not yet released data on their results, but say they are they have seen "continued progress."
Head of Education for Aberdeenshire Council, Vincent Docherty said: “Congratulations to all of our young people across Aberdeenshire – you have really done yourselves proud and we’re really pleased as a local authority with our continued progress which is following a pattern of projected improvement.
“The range of courses now on offer across Aberdeenshire is helping young people reach their potential, develop new skills and feel more confident. We’ve been able to support the vast majority of our Foundation Apprentices to complete their courses this year, even in the face of a pandemic, with young people gaining online as well as in-person work experience.
“Everyone involved in the continued expansion of courses on offer is delighted and pleased to see what a difference this is making. Our success is down to the hard work of young people, and the strong partnership working between our schools and Foundation Apprenticeships team, and support services as well as partner providers. Thank you to all.”
