Police searching for two sisters in Aberdeen say there's 'nothing to suggest criminality' in their disappearance.

Eliza and Henrietta Huszti were last spotted over a week ago on CCTV walking on Market Street at Victoria Bridge at around 2.12am on Tuesday January 7.

The pair, both aged 32, then crossed the bridge and turned down onto a footpath that runs alongside the River Dee.

Police say they are remaining “opened minded” but continue to focus their search on the river as they say there is no evidence to suggest the sisters left the immediate area.

Superintendent Howie told reporters this morning detectives have a number of hypotheses in terms of what happened but one of the main theories is that the sisters have entered the water.

He added that being out in the middle of the night is unusual for the sisters.

He said: "From information from friends and family, them being out in Aberdeen at that time in the morning is very unusual.

"We've no reason to think they were socialising in the city prior to attending this area. It looks very much as if they have attended here from their home address or the area of their home address but we are working hard to try and understand that."

Search focusing on river

An extensive search operation has been carried out over the last few days involving a police helicopter, dog branch and the marine unit.

Divers could be seen out on the river this morning near Victoria Bridge.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, the family of the sisters said: “This has been a very worrying and upsetting time for our family.

“We are really worried about Eliza and Henrietta and all we want is for them to be found.

“If you think you might have any information which could help the police with finding Eliza and Henrietta then please pass this on as quickly as you can.

“We appreciate all the support our family has been given over the past few days and we would like our privacy to be respected at this time.”

Both Henrietta and Eliza are described as white and of slim build with long, brown hair.

Anyone with information is urged to contact 101 quoting incident number 0735 of Tuesday January 7 2025.
