New security scanners installed at Aberdeen Airport with 100ml liquid rule scrapped
The new scanners have been installed ahead of the UK Government deadline at the beginning of June this year.
Passengers at Aberdeen Airport will now be able to carry liquids of up to two-litres in their carry-on luggage as the 100ml limit is scrapped.
The change comes as the airport has installed new scanners meaning that the bigger bottles of liquids are now permitted.
Travellers will also no longer need to remove laptops, electricals or fluids from their bags when passing though security.
The new scanners known as Next Generation Security Checkpoint (NGSC) Scanners have been installed ahead of the UK Government deadline at the beginning of June this year.
William Wallace, Security Manager at Aberdeen International Airport said: “This is one of the biggest changes in airport security so we would ask passengers to be prepared for this new process and to have patience as we enter the biggest change in aviation security in nearly two decades.”
Check before you fly
However, passengers are reminded that different rules may apply at other UK airports.
Holidaymakers are urged to check what the process is at both their departing airport and any other airports they will travel through or from before setting off, as this may be different.
It will make life easier for many sun catchers travelling through the busy airport this summer.
Last year saw more than 2.3 million passengers passing through the terminal.
Mr Wallace who is “delighted” by the news also added that: “we are well ahead of the deadline set by the Government thanks to all the hard work from our staff and contractors."
