One of the seven men accused of murdering 39-year-old dad Gary Clampett has told a jury that he did not play any part in his death.

Gary Martin, 37, said that it was “absolutely terrifying” to be on trial for a crime he claims he did not commit

He was giving evidence at the High Court in Glasgow where he is on trial along with John Henderson, 47, Joseph Martin, 40, Thomas Martin , 45, David Graham, 46, James Connor, 52, and Dean Leech, 25, who deny murdering Mr Clampett .

It is alleged they by hit him with knives, a machete, a sword, a chain, a hammer, a crowbar, a wrench, a stick, bats, golf clubs, poles and a metal bat at Fernie Place, Fraserburgh, around 4am on June 18, last year.

The court has heard that the fatal blow was a knife wound to his side and Mr Clampett died from blood loss.

Co-accused John Henderson denies murder, but admits the culpable homicide of Mr Clampett by stabbing him.

Gary Martin was asked: “Did you play any part in the death of Mr Clampett and he replied: “No.”

He was then asked: “What is it like to sit in the dock in the High Court in Glasgow accused of a murder you did not commit,” and Mr Martin replied: “Absolutely terrifying.”

Mr Martin told the court he did not know Mr Clampett and may have met his wife once, but could not remember it.

The trial before judge Lord Beckett continues.
