Money has been stolen from a popular Aberdeen restaurant.

La Lombarda in the city centre was broken into early on Monday morning at around 1:00am.

Owner Jennifer Naoum said: "A brick had been put through one of the glass panels, quite near the bottom of the door so it was quite obvious there was something wrong.

"The till and till screen was all over the floor, papers all over the floor.

"The office door had been kicked in, with everything just strewn across the floor in the office.

"To come in to that is quite unnerving.

"It was just after 1 o'clock, we could have still had a staff member in the building.

"Thankfully he didn't get away with that much, it could have been much worse.

"We had to close the restaurant for the day, we had to let customers down that had booked to come in for parties as well."

Constable Kirsty MacKay who is dealing with the incident said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time who may have seen something which may assist with our investigation.

"In particular we are looking to trace a man who was in the area at the time who may be able to assist us with our enquiries.

"He is described as being white, in his late teens or early twenties, of medium build and around 5ft 8ins tall. He was wearing a Berghaus hooded jacket, light coloured tracksuit bottoms and black and white Nike trainers.

"Anyone who has any information should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 1378 of 3 July.
