The family of a woman found dead at her Aberdeen flat have paid tribute to her – saying “it’s hard to comprehend” her death.

Margaret Robertson was discovered in her home in Promenade Court in Seaton at around 1.20pm on Friday the 27th September.

Her children, Mark and Michelle, have described her as a “much-loved mum, daughter, grandma and friend to many”.

In a statement issued through Police Scotland they also thanked officers and the local community for their help.

They said: “Margaret, or Meg as we all knew her, was a much-loved mum, daughter, grandma and friend to many.

“We have received and read countless messages of support and would like to thank everyone for their kind words at this extremely difficult time. Every member of Meg's family are heartbroken and she will be sorely missed by us all.

“It is hard to comprehend our mum has been taken from us and we will never, ever understand why this had to happen to her.

“The past few days have obviously been extremely difficult for us as a family and we would ask for privacy as we try to come to terms with our horrendous loss.

“We would like to thank the local community for the help and assistance they provided to police during the investigation.

“We would also like to thank Police Scotland for all their hard work, continued support and assistance throughout the investigation.”

Earlier on Thursday, police said a 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with her death.

He is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Friday.

Detective Inspector Gary Winter said: “Thank you to the members of the local community who have provided information and assistance in relation to our investigation - your help and support has been appreciated.

“A police presence will remain in the area while our inquiries continue and I would still encourage anyone with information to approach our officers if you think you can help."
