A man who threw cocaine at police officers during an Aberdeen raid has been been sentenced to almost six years in prison.

27 year-old Michael Beaton launched the powder block at one officer, causing him and three others to ingest the Class A drug at Waukmill Crescent on June 19 last year.

Beaton also assaulted an officer during the seizure, which was estimated to be worth more than £80,000.

Another 27 year-old man, Dylan John Dunlop's also been handed three years.

During sentencing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lord Ericht told Michael Beaton: “Together with your co-accused Dylan John Dunlop you were involved for a period of around 9 weeks in the dealing of cocaine and diamorphine, converting cocaine powder to crack cocaine and carrying out local drug-dealing.

“You have also pled guilty to culpably and recklessly throwing a quantity of powder containing Cocaine at police officers, striking one and causing him and 3 other officers to ingest the powder, and also guilty to assaulting a police officer in the execution of his duty under the Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Act 2012, Section 90(1)(a).”

Lord Ericht said a tougher sentence would have been imposed for both men were it not for their earlier plea.
