Man Stopped For Driving 114mph In 60mph Zone In Aberdeenshire

A man who was stopped for driving 114mph in a 60mph speed limit area in Aberdeenshire, is amongst 200 drivers who were stopped by Police Scotland over the weekend, throughout Aberdeenshire and Moray.

Five men were charged with drink driving, while another man was reported for failing to provide a breath test. A further four men were charged for speeding offences, including the one motorist stopped for driving at 114mph in the 60mph speed limit area of the A952 Mintlaw to Cortes road.

Officers stopped and talked to 192 drivers in total, with 81 being warned or reported for a variety of offences, including speeding, using a mobile phone and driving without a seatbelt.

The checks took place as part of Operation CEDAR (Challenge, Educate, Detect and Reduce), an ongoing operation to encourage drivers to take more responsibility on the regions roads.

Over the weekend, officers were stationed across a number of Aberdeenshire's main routes including the A96, A90 and A952.

Road Policing Inspector Ewan Innes said: "Despite repeated warnings about the dangers, it is disappointing to find that drivers of all ages are still willing to ignore speed limit or drink and drive. These motorists are not only putting themselves in danger, but placing other lives at risk too.

"We would encourage all motorists to think about their actions while on the road, as these offences can have devastating consequences. The safety of road users is a leading priority for Police Scotland and this is reflected in the ongoing work under Operation CEDAR."
