Aberdeen man to run 100 miles around Duthie Park in 24 hours for charity
Dave More has set himself the challenge of running the equivalent to almost four marathons.
An Aberdeen man has set himself up for a gruelling challenge of running 100 miles, the equivalent to nearly four marathons, around Duthie Park.
Dave More is raising money for three charities including Cash for Kids, Cove Youth 2011 Football Team and Gathimba Edwards Foundation.
He hopes to finish the fundraiser in just 24 hours, circling the park 161 times.
Mr More said he wanted to set himself an extra challenge by doing it on one of the shortest days of the year.
He said: "I wanted to get outside of my comfort zone so doing it on the darkest weekend of the year in December bringing the element of the darkness and weather into it, so it is quite a challenge for me. It's a case of getting to give something back at Christmas to three causes."
"If you've got an opportunity to use your sport to give something back and give hope to people and hopefully inspire others who are starting out on their sporting journey - it is good to give something back and help people at this time of year and that was why we came up with it."
Dave has experience in running long distance, having previously completed challenges lasting 48 hours.
He explained his motivation comes from the freedom of being outside regardless of the weather.
He continued: "Because I'm doing it for three good causes, I will want to succeed. I don't want to fail on this. This makes it worthwhile and that's the motivation right there - getting to be outside and help people."
The challenge will begin at 10am on Saturday December 23 at Duthie Park with the aim of crossing the finish line on Sunday morning.
