Police have named a driver killed in a van crash in Aberdeenshire.

William Buchan, 48, died following the collision on the A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead road near Hatton on Thursday.

Mr Buchan, from Peterhead, was driving a white Ford Transit van which collided with a Mercedes Vito at around 10.45am.

The 26-year-old male driver of the Vito was seriously injured and is in a stable condition at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Sergeant Colin Matheson said: "Our thoughts are with Mr Buchan's family and friends at this very sad time.

"I am appealing once again to anyone who may have seen either of the vehicles prior to the collision, or who saw the incident itself, and who has not yet come forward to do so as soon as possible.''
