John and Sylvia Gallagher travelled from the Highlands to visit their 30 year old daughter Charlie when the attack happened just over a year ago.
They were repeatedly stabbed in the car park of the Broadsword Bar in Tillydrone.
42 year old Matthew Boyle left them all fighting for their lives.
He's already got a previous conviction for a similar attack when he was just 16.
But John Gallagher's no stranger to prison himself - he was jailed for 20 years for murdering a man in Glasgow during a botched robbery in the 70s, and later led a rooftop protest at Peterhead.
He called Boyle a coward as he was led away at the High Court in Edinburgh.
On his conviction last month, Detective Chief Inspector Colin Morrans, who led the inquiry, said: "This would have been a terrifying experience for the victims involved.
"I welcome the conviction of Boyle who now has to face the consequences of his abhorrent behaviour.
"I would like to thank members of the public for coming forward as well as the victims. This has undoubtedly had a distressing impact on their lives."
