An Aberdeen sex offender could spend the rest of his life behind bars for raping a woman he grabbed off the street. 22 year old Daniel Welsh had had a row with his pregnant girlfriend when he attacked a total stranger back in February The woman was walking to a friend's house for dinner on Urquhart Road when she was pulled into a nearby cemetary and attacked in a 90 minute ordeal. At the time - he was being monitored for previous sex offences, and had been assessed as "very high risk" He's been given an Order for Lifelong Restriction, which means he'll only be freed when a parole board thinks he's no longer a threat. But that could be as soon as four and a half years from now.

Police Scotland have released a statement on the sentence:

Detective Inspector Kevin Walker said: "This was an extremely distressing incident for the victim and I want to pay tribute to her courage in coming forward and helping police with the enquiry, which resulted in Daniel Welsh being quickly apprehended.

"Welsh is a predatory offender who subjected his victim to a brutal and sustained attack and has shown no remorse for his actions. I welcome the sentence handed to him today where he can no longer be a threat to the public.

"I want to reassure the public that attacks like these are very rare. We take these incidents very seriously and will be thoroughly investigated."
