A man and a young child have both survived, after the car they were travelling in was crushed by a lorry.

The 44-year-old man driving the Vauxhall Corsa had to be freed from the vehicle by fire fighters.

He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he is being treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A five-year-old girl who was also in the vehicle was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

The incident happened at around 11.40am near Loch of Skene, and road closures were put in place at the Dunecht junction and the junction with the B9126.

The road re-opened around 2.20pm following recovery of the vehicles.

Roads Policing Sergeant Steve Manson said: "I would appeal to anyone who saw either vehicle in the lead-up to the incident, or indeed the collision itself, to please contact Police on 101." Police say it's "remarkable" no-one was more seriously hurt or killed after a lorry and car crashed in Aberdeenshire.
