Man dies in hospital following two-car crash on Aberdeenshire road

A 40-year-old man has died following a two-vehicle crash during rush hour in Aberdeenshire on Thursday morning.

Emergency services - including a trauma team and special operations response team - were dispatched to the A947 south of Newmachar shortly before 8am.

Two fire crews were also sent to the collision which involved a white Citroen DS3 and a blue Seat Leon.

The driver of the Citroen, a 40-year-old man, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he later died.

The driver of the Seat sustained a minor injury and was also taken to hospital.

The road was closed for crash investigation work but has now reopened.

Police are now appealing for information and are urging anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward to assist with enquiries.

Sergeant Peter Henderson said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died, as well as all those involved in this incident.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are keen to speak to anyone with information that can assist.

“In particular, if you have dash-cam that could help with our investigation then please get in touch via 101, quoting incident number 0650 of Thursday, 9 May, 2024.”
