A man has died following a collision between a car and coach in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident involving a Stagecoach bus and a red Vauxhall Astra on the A93 at around 6.45pm on Friday. The road was shut by Police Scotland between Ballater and Crathie after the Bridge of Gairn.

Road Policing Sergeant Peter Henderson said 'Sadly the male driver of the Astra died from his injuries and our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy. Enquiries are ongoing and we have already spoken with a number of witnesses.''

''I would ask that anyone who has not already given their details to Police and who saw either vehicle in the area please get in touch. Likewise if motorists believe they may have dashcam footage which could assist our enquiries, I would urge you to come forward. ''

Anyone with information can contact Police on 101 or Crime Stoppers on 0800555111 in confidence. Please quote Incident 3322 of 23 February 2018.''

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
