Man in court over alleged fraudulent scheme
Nazeeb El-Syed appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court
A man appeared in court today charged in connection with running a fraudulent scheme.
Nazeeb El-Syed appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court after several members of the public raised concerns with police.
The 21-year-old, from London, made no plea and no declaration and was realised on bail.
Police said that the alleged fraudulent scheme involved the supposed impersonation of a legitimate organisation over July and August 2016.
The alleged offence was said to have been carried out in the Aberdeen area.
Officers were last night warning the public to be vigilant.
Detective Inspector Lee Jardine said: "Police Scotland is committed to detecting callers who target vulnerable people within their own homes for money, whether it's on doorsteps or trying to obtain details over the phone.
"It is extremely important that members of the public are on their guard from callers asking for your banking details or personal information. You should never, ever provide your banking information, bank card, PIN number or personal details to anyone whether on the phone or in person - no official body will ever ask you for these details especially on your doorstep, on the phone, by email or letter.
"Should anyone call you or attend at your home asking for financial information please do not provide this without first confirming their identity with the relevant authority. The best approach would be to not give them any information at all unless you are 100 per cent sure who they are.
"Anyone with doubts or suspicions about callers at their home or on the phone should contact Police on 101. I would also ask all members of the public to keep an eye on any older or vulnerable family members, friends or neighbours and to ensure they are also on their guard."
