A 35-year-old man has been charged in connection with two alleged break-ins to vehicles in Ellon.

Two incidents were reported to officers whereby a Ford Mondeo had been entered in the Ythan Terrace area on August 20, 2017. Later that day an Audi was entered in the Hospital Road area whereby jewellery worth a low four figure sum was taken. This jewellery has since been recovered.

A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal and the man is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court at a later date.

Detective Sergeant Bruce Buntain said: "Thank you to the members of the public who assisted police with these particular enquiries."

He added: "I would once again appeal to the public to always ensure your doors are locked and secure. The North East generally is an extremely safe place to live, however it doesn't mean you should ever be complacent when it comes to the security of your valuables.

"By leaving the doors to your homes or vehicles unlocked you simply give would-be thieves a helping hand. Don’t become a victim and make sure you lock up."
