An Indian supply ship held in Aberdeen’s harbour for more than a year has failed to sell at auction.

The Malaviya Seven was held in June 2016 after claims the dozen crewmembers on board were owed more than £600,000 in unpaid wages.

Last month it was ruled at Aberdeen Sheriff Court that the vessel be sold to recoup that money, along with dues owed to the harbour for berthing, and any debts.

On that guarantee, six of the sailors returned home to their families, while the other half of the crew remained in the Granite City to prepare the boat for sale.

Earlier at the Rox Hotel, just one bid was made for the Malaviya Seven, of £300,000 which was below the reserve price.

Auctioneer Dominic Daly was left with no option but to withdraw the ship from sale, but it’s understood talks are ongoing with the interested party to secure a deal.

Mr Daly said: "That party (the bidder) can increase his bid if he likes. Hopefully he'll increase it to a level that may be acceptable."

He said that other parties could also make representations in the private negotiations

The crew, visibly disappointed left the venue immediately following the non-sale.
