Two people have had a lucky escape after a high speed crash in Aberdeenshire.

The car came off the Tarland to Echt road on Sunday 11 June 2017, hitting a tree before coming to a stand still.

The collision involved a blue coloured BMW M2 motor car and occurred just before midday.

The 22 year old male driver and 20 year old female passenger were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

A supercar event was taking place in the area at the time, with spectators narrowly avoiding the danger.

Road Policing Sergeant Rob Warnock, who is leading the enquiry, said, "I would appeal for anyone who was in the area or saw the collision to contact Police.

"We are particularly looking to speak to the occupants of a silver coloured motor vehicle which was passing in the moments prior to the collision.
