Thirteen people were on board the CHC flight carrying Statoil employees

A search is underway off the coast of Norway for 13 people on board a helicopter which has crashed in the North Sea.

The CHC flight was carrying passengers to Bergen from Gullfaks B to Bergen when it happened.

John Sjurso is the press spokesman for the Navy's joint rescue centre:

CHC have released a statement following the crash.

It says: "CHC Helicopter can confirm that there has been an incident involving one of our aircraft in the Norwegian sector.

"Exact details of the incident, which happened at approximately 11am BST, are not yet known.

"The appropriate authorities have been informed and the company’s Incident Management Team is being mobilised.

"Further details will be released when more information becomes available."

Today, 29 April at 12.20, Statoil was informed that a helicopter had gone down outside Turøy in Øygarden municipality outside Bergen. The helicopter was en route from Gullfaks B to Bergen. "A total of 13 people were on board the helicopter, which was a CHC helicopter. Statoil has temporarily grounded all equivalent traffic helicopters. "The rescue operation is led and coordinated by the rescue coordination centre, and Statoil is providing additional resources. "Statoil has mobilised its entire emergency response organisation."
