Nine out of ten people in Scotland have received a nuisance call in the last month.

A survey for Which? also found three quarters are less likely to pick up their phone due to excessive cold calling - with people being phoned ten times a month on average.

The consumer group is calling on the Scottish Government to crack down on businesses breaking the rules on nuisance calls.

We've spoken to Pete Moorey, who's head of campaigns at Which?:

Which? executive director Richard Lloyd said: "With the vast majority of Scots getting nuisance calls, it is clear efforts must be re-doubled to tackle this modern menace.

"People are fed up with being bombarded with unwanted calls and texts that waste their time and invade their privacy."

The survey of 1,000 Scottish residents showed nearly eight in ten have taken steps to reduce the amount of cold calls they receive, with a quarter going ex-directory.

As many as 40% also admitted to feeling intimidated by them.

Which? say both MSPs and business chiefs should take responsibility to tackle the problem.

Lloyd added: “The Scottish Government should lead the way by setting out how it plans to fight back against nuisance callers.

"Scottish businesses should make senior executives responsible if their firm makes unlawful calls.”
