Six months after the murder of Brian McKandie - the police are still hoping to find that breakthrough which will lead to a conviction.

The 67-year-old was a popular car mechanic in the Rothienorman area - and he was beaten to death in his own home.

Our reporter Phil McDonald has this special report...

Last week we learned DNA had been found inside which isn't Brian's.

That'll be matched against criminal databases and key witnesses - and there could also be a mass screening in the area.

Detective Chief Inspector Iain Smith made the announcement last week.

Police are still searching for the murder weapon as well as two men who were seen talking to Mr McKandie the day before he was killed

The men - one a heavy-set man in his fifties, the other younger - were spotted in the driveway of his home at Fairview Cottages, Badenscoth, between 1pm and 2pm.

They appeared to be beside a burgundy or maroon-coloured estate car which was parked in Mr McKandie's driveway.

They are also urging motorists with dashboard camera footage to come forward.
