LISTEN: 45 North East Homes Offered Up For Syrian Refugees

Published 29th Sep 2015

People in the North East have already offered up 45 homes across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire for Syrian refugees.

Charity group, 'Aberdeen Solidarity With Refugees', have compiled a list of those willing to offer accomodation, which they will then pass onto Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council.

The local authorities say they will asses all offers of housing.

Last week, Aberdeen City Council agreed to allow 100 Syrian refugees to resettle in the Granite City, with Aberdeenshire Council agreeing to re-homing 50 Syrian families.

It is not yet known when Syrian refugees will start arriving in Scotland or the North East, but each local authority is closely assesing their availability of care packages for migrants, including schooling, housing, health care, and benefits.

Our reporter Hope Webb sat down with Iain Richardson, from charity group 'Aberdeen Solidarity With Refugees', to discuss the rising number of accomodation offers.
