Former Aberdeen boss Alex Smith to retire from football

Legendary former Aberdeen boss Alex Smith is to retire from football at the age of 78.

He managed the Dons between 1988 and 1992 and at the moment is working as Technical Director at Falkirk.

Last year he became the oldest manager in Europe when he took charge of the Bairns on an interim basis.

He'll leave football at the end of this season and will emigrate to Australia to be with his family.

Smith has enjoyed an incredible career spanning 5 decades, and enjoyed great success at Pittodrie.

He lifted both the Scottish and League Cups and in 1991 came close to winning the league.

In 2016 he was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.
