Legendary AFC physio honoured
David Wylie worked with the Dons for 33 years
Retired Dons physio David Wylie has been recognised with an award from Aberdeen fans’ organisation, Dons Supporters Together.
David was presented with the DONS (Distinction of Notable Service) Award for his 33 years at Pittodrie, spanning 1983 to 2016.
David becomes the 11th recipient of the DONS Award, which is designed to acknowledge players, staff and supporters who have made a significant contribution to the club.
Other winners include Willie Miller, Teddy Scott, Norman Goldie and Sir Alex Ferguson, who welcomed David to the coaching staff just two months after the Dons’ memorable victory in Gothenburg to win the Uefa Cup-Winners’ Cup with an extra time win over Real Madrid.
As part of the award process, fans were asked to submit nominations for consideration.
Kevin Mackenzie, Chairman of DST, said: “We are delighted to present the award to David on behalf of the fans. It is no surprise that his name was put forward given the length of service and dedication he gave to AFC.
“The Club, the game and the role of physio changed so much over those 33 years. What did not change was David’s commitment to Aberdeen and that has to be commended.”
On receiving the award, David said: "I am very grateful to DST and their members for honouring me with the DONS Award."
The award is a specially-commissioned print from local artist, Dod Dow, and was presented to David at the Stand Free Youth Development Dinner on Saturday 29 April.
