It's 'finger picking good' - fast food giant KFC have funded 200 grabbers and bag halos to help clean up Aberdeen's streets and beauty spots.

They are working with Mugiemoss based group Communinty Clean-up.

They've cleared out over 11,000 kilos of rubbish from their local area in the past year.

Founder Mike Scotland wants some help from other Aberdeen communities to suggest where to install these 'pick-and-go' stations - he believes they can put 55 of them together.

These stations would allow members of the public to collect equipment when going for a walk or taking the dog out - then drop it off again afterwards, with Aberdeen City Council collecting rubbish from the stations later.

Watch Mike's interview with Northsound Reporter Lewis Michie:

The Founder of Community Clean-Up, Mike Scotland told Northsound:

"If I'm still litter picking at the age of 70, I've done something wrong.

"That's my goal, not to do it in future - for our kids."

He continued: "The idea of this is to put out equipment across the whole of Aberdeen City, in areas where if for instance you want to go out on a walk with your dog, or your friends, there's going to be a 'pick and collect' station there

"You can actively get hold of equipment, put it back, Aberdeen City Council will be collecting what is gathered.

"But one thing I don't know is where all the litter is, so we need help from the general public."

The link with KFC comes from Mike's time spent working at the fast food restaurant's Haudagain branch.

During his breaks he would go out to clear away rubbish left in the car park, which didn't go unnoticed.

He said: "It's amazing that they want to get involved."

"They asked what they could do, we came up with these Community clean-up 'pick and collects' and they donated a lot of equipment, enough for 55 of these stations."

Mike hopes efforts like this can be replicated across the country, saying:

"We want to spearhead this for Scotland, it starts in Aberdeen, it will go through Scotland, it will go across the UK, and we will make this change happens - it starts here and it starts now."
