The centrepiece of Aberdeen's £107m Marischal Square development's been unveiled after days of speculation over what it is on social media.

A two ton steel leopard is Kelpies sculptor Andy Scott's first work in the North East. The 20 tonne big cat is five metres tall and perches atop of a ten metre steel column.

Scott said: "I've worked on this sculpture for over a year in the studio and it's been very demanding.

"There are literally thousands of steel fragments all individually welded to create the form of the artwork."

The leopard has featured in Aberdeen's city coat of arms for at least 600 years.
