Up to 64 jobs in Aberdeen could be lost by next year after the Department for Work and Pensions proposed to closed 42 offices across the UK, including Aberdeen Ebury House.

Staff in other offices have been offered plans to merge, though there has been no option of relocation made available to any of the staff in Ebury House.

Speaking to Northsound, Stephen Flynn, MP for Aberdeen South, said "clarity" is important for the staff that may be forced into unemployment.

"This announcement today from the Department for Work and Pensions poses a number of huge questions regarding their services here in Aberdeen, and indeed the future of Ebury House itself.

"In the first instance we want to get clarity as to what this means for staff, what will their role be going forward and will their jobs be protected.

"Secondly, and of course just as importantly, is what this means for service users themselves."

"Hopefully I'll be able to secure a meeting with the UK Government minister soon to try and get that clarity.

"I'll be clear to him that if there is any detrimental consequences for staff or service users in Aberdeen then these proposals need to be immediately reconsidered."
