Cove Rangers midfielder Iain Vigurs says it would be a "fantastic achievement" should his team win the league on Saturday.

Cove currently sit five points ahead of second-place Airdrieonians with only three games left this season.

It means that a win at home to Alloa, coupled with Airdrieonians not winning against Dumbarton, would be enough for Paul Hartley's side to gain promotion to the Scottish Championship.

It would be the third league title of Vigurs career after winning the second-tier with Ross County in 2011/12 and 2018/19.

Vigurs joined Cove in summer alongside Ross Draper

"It doesn't matter which club you're at or which league you're playing in, to win a league is a fantastic achievement.

"It'd be fantastic for the fans, you know, for anyone involved with the club, because they've been on such a journey", added the former Scotland youth international.

Three promotions in four seasons?

The 'Toonsers' were playing in the Scottish Highland League, the fifth-tier, in 2019. However, next season they could be playing in the second-tier.

Vigurs admits that the squad is excited about the prospect of playing in the Scottish Championship, though says that all their attention is on this weekends game.

"Of course we're excited, we could definitely win it. But I just see Airdrie winning every game.

"What we just need to focus on is playing the 90 minutes and not getting ahead of ourselves, not thinking about the game after, not thinking what could happen, just being in that moment."

The 33-year-old added that the team will resist the temptation to look at the Airdrieonians score on Saturday.

"The boys are 100% in the game for 90 minutes, no one is thinking about anything else. Once we've played that 90 minutes then you find out the results.

"But when it's in with the game, you just think of what you need to do and getting your job done. And that will be the same again on Saturday."
