Police are investigating after reports a horse has been stabbed and assaulted in an attack in a field.
The incident happened near New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, overnight on Sunday and the female horse called Blaze had to be put down.
In a Facebook post, Blaze's owner said someone entered the field and stabbed the horse twice in the chest before assaulting the animal.
A £1,000 reward was offered to anyone who could provide information which leads to an arrest.
She's also urging other horse owners to check their animals for cuts, and to report anyone acting suspiciously.
The post has been shared thousands of times.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: We have had a report of an injured horse in the New Pitsligo area and inquiries are ongoing into the incident.
Anyone with information should get in touch.''
