Hopes Shell will relocate to Aberdeen's City centre
The Oil giant is keen to find a new home, leaving their dated Wellington Road base.
Following news last month that Shell are looking for a new building, it's hoped they will consider a city centre location.
Business Improvement District Aberdeen Inspired have been keen to see more people working and living in the city centre to fill empty buildings.
A Shell spokesperson said: “We’re a business that plans decades ahead for the supply of the energy the UK relies on, developing technologies and projects that could transform the future of how we power homes and businesses. And yet our team in Aberdeen is currently working in an office complex from the 1970s. We’re now looking at the best options for a new modern workplace, fit for the future, in the Aberdeen area.”
Aberdeen Inspired's chief Executive Adrian Watson thinks they'd be a perfect business to kick-start more inner city working.
Watch our interview with Adrian Watson:
He said:
"That's exactly what we are looking for through the city centre masterplan, is bringing people back in, whether that is to work in the city centre or to live in the city centre"
Mr Watson also feels the existing infrastructure, such as car parking, would cope - but that this would also make it easier for workers to go green and use more public transport.
He said:
"I think it is important that the city is accessible and there is car parking there and it's strategically well placed."
"Of course we are trying to promote public transport as much as we can moving forward with the green agenda, and I think we all understand that and companies like Shell understand it more than most."
As of yet Shell have not revealed where in Aberdeen they might be considering as a new office space.
