A memorial service is taking place in Aberdeenshire on Tuesday for a woman who went missing more than 100 days ago.

Hazel Nairn was swept into the River Don at Monymusk alongside her dog, Rory, on the afternoon of Friday, 18 November.

The dogs body was found five days later, but Hazel is still missing.

The search, which was unsuccessful, was called off at the start of the year.

"Life has changed forever"

Alana Mathers, a friend of Hazel, told Northsound News that it's been a difficult time for the family.

"We all need the memorial, especially Hazel's family. "For most, life has returned back to normal, but life as they knew it (Haze's family) has changed forever.

"They're still no further forward and the nightmare continues.

"A form of closure"

"It's not closure, but it's a form of closure", added Alana.

A vigil was been held in Hazel's memory last year, but they've been unable to say goodbye since her disappearance.

"Most of us when we lose someone we love have the opportunity to say goodbye and celebrate that persons life. Hazel's family have never had that chance.

"The memorial service is really important. It's a form of remembrance, it's a form of celebration and it's something the family really need."

A GoFundMe page has been set up prior to the service, which takes place at Kintore Parish Church.

Permission has also been granted to build a bench in memory of Hazel at Monymusk Park.

The GoFundMe page can be found here.
