Great Aberdeen Run to hit the streets of the city next summer
The race is expected to attract thousands of athletes in its first year.
Runners of all abilities will race to the city centre on 27 August 2017 where Union Street is both the start and finish line.
The route visits Aberdeen's major landmarks such as the University, Pittodrie, Marischal College, and the Beach Ballroom.
Runners can sign up now to the Half Marathon, 10K, or Family Mile event.
Chief Executive of the Great Run Company Mark Hollinshead said: "We want to bring the concept of the worlds favourite run to Aberdeen because it is an ambitious city with an evolving major events strategy.
"There are strong sporting credentials and a great running heritage in the city.
"The Great Run Company are delighted and very proud to be invited into the city to deliver what will be a world class event.
"It will be a very runner friendly course, it will be a flat and fast course. And it will start and finish on Union Street.
"We believe that within three years this will be a top-ten event."
Leader of the Aberdeen City Council Jenny Laing said: "We are in no doubt how important this event is.
"It is about creating a place where people want to live and work and do business.
"We have challenges in the city at the moment and we want to make sure that the economic buoyancy we have experienced over recent decades will continue.
"And that involves us diversifying our economy. We are very reliant on oil and gas, and we are grateful for that but we also need to diversify to continue, and tourism is one those areas to move into."
There are 15 Great Runs across the UK and the one in Glasgow brings in £4.3 million to their economy ever year.
