A Perthshire dad's thanking rescuers for saving his son's life after he suffered a heart attack on the rugby pitch

20-year-old Hamish Bell collapsed playing with Blairgowrie on Tuesday evening to the horror of everyone on the field.

Team-mates- including two off-duty police officers - rushed to resuscitate him with a defibrillator- just like Danish player Christian Eriksen at the Euros

Dad Arthur says if they hadn't his son could have died, and he had this message: “Myself and my family would like to thank everyone at the Club and those who resuscitated and saved my son’s life.

“The medical staff at A&E Ninewells Hospital made it very clear that without prompt action we would probably have lost Hamish. Myself and my family cannot thank you enough and will be forever indebted to you.

“Hamish is doing well and will be in the hospital for a few more days undergoing tests to try and find out the cause. We will keep the club updated as I’m sure Hamish will also.

“I look forward to coming with Hamish and my family to the club, in the not too distant future, to thank you all personally.”

Hamish studies at Aberdeen Uni and was home for a brief visit before he decided to walk across the road for a game at the rugby club in the sunshine.

He’s now undergoing tests to try and work out what went wrong.
