"Good news, but still more to do" that's the verdict of NHS Grampian Head of Health intelligence Jillian Evans.

Covid figures for the health board area are down four-fold since the peak in January, and while the countries numbers are all going down, they are going down more quickly in the North East.

Just 19 cases were reported in Grampian yesterday - although numbers can often be reported slightly differently from reality after a weekend.

"Definitely a move in the right direction" said Evans, continuing she said: "That's great news and everyone has done their bit, lockdown has definitely made a huge difference."

But there's still work to be done according to Evans, she said:

"But cast your mind back to September, and compare the numbers now with then, and actually we are still very much higher than we need to be for any changes to take place."

The seven day numbers at the moment show around 300 cases in the region over seven days, five months ago that number was about 44 - the best figures the health board have had during the pandemic.

We do however, have the double positive of falling figures of Covid, as vaccine numbers go up by the day.

And Evans has branded efforts by vaccine centre staff and those keeping the roads safe last week as "heroic" with very little jags postponed due to the weather.
