Gas and electricity could be shut off for long periods after Aberdeen fire

Fire crews have been battling a blaze near Pittodrie stadium.
The alarm was raised at a garage on Merkland Road East just after 8.00am on Wednesday morning.
Black smoke could soon be soon in the sky from across the city, and people were evacuated from nearby flats.
There have been no reports of any injuries.
The SFRS is still on the scene and are warning electricity and gas may be shut off for surrounding properties.
It is also asking those people to keep their windows and doors closed.
Area Commander Andrew Wright said: “We were alerted at 8.02am on Wednesday, 22 January, to reports of a commercial building fire at Merkland Road East, Aberdeen.
“Currently there are two appliances on scene at a car garage and firefighters are working to contain the fire and reduce fire spread.
“There are no reports of any casualties.
“Residents should be aware that there is no access to surrounding properties.
"Electricity and gas supplies may be shut off for prolonged periods of time.
"Properties within the area should keep windows and doors closed."
Aberdeen City Council has set up a rest centre at the sports village for anyone waiting to be allowed back home.
Anyone going to the centre is being asked to take essential items such as prescription medicine and warm clothing.
Pets are also being welcomed.
