Full Emergency Declared At Aberdeen Airport Was "False Alarm"

A "full emergency" that was declared at Aberdeen Airport this afternoon was a "false alarm", according to Bristow Helicopters.

The alert was made after an emergency light within a North Sea helicopter was activated earlier this afternoon.

The aircraft was then forced to make an emergency landing at Aberdeen Airport.

The Airport and emergency services were on full alert as the aircraft approached, but the helicopter landed safely at 1:40pm.

The aircraft is now undergoing a full engineering investigation.

A Bristow statement read: "Bristow Helicopters Ltd can confirm that one of its helicopters requested priority landing at Aberdeen Airport today. A caution light falsely displayed causing the false alarm. The airport emergency services attended as per standard practice, but no assistance was required.

"The helicopter, which had six passengers and two crew on board at the time, landed safely at approximately 1340 hrs. The aircraft will undergo an engineering investigation."
