People across Aberdeen with a visible difference, such as a scar, mark or skin condition on their face or body, can now access a free skin camouflage service.

A partnership between charities Changing Faces and CLAN Cancer Support has brought the service to Aberdeen, one that has already been successful across Scotland.

It lets people with visible skin differences reduce the difference using specialist creams and powders.

“Too many people with visible differences and disfigurements are having to deal with a daily grind of stares, comments and abuse, simply because of how they look.

Angela Harris, Head of Scotland for Changing Faces, said it important that they are giving people a choice.

At least 1.3 million children, young people and adults in the UK are estimated to have significant disfigurements, including 569,000 with facial disfigurements.

“Too many people with visible differences and disfigurements are having to deal with a daily grind of stares, comments and abuse, simply because of how they look", said Harris.

“Our Skin Camouflage Service is all about offering people choice. We can support people to camouflage their visible difference, if doing so will help them lead the life they want.

"Thanks to out new partnership with Clan Cancer Support, we can deliver our monthly clinic in Aberdeen from a superb facility that offers a warm welcome to our clients, and our skin camouflage practitioners."

Anyone with a visible difference can refer themselves via the Changing Faces website.
