Four teenagers - three boys aged 15 and a 14-year-old boy - have been detained and reported over the fire which ripped through an Aberdeen school last night.

It broke out at Cordyce School on Riverview Drive in Dyce at about 11pm on Monday night.

More than thirty firefighters were called to put out the flames, which could be seen for miles around.

It took them three hours to put it out, and at least one crew has stayed at the scene this morning.

The school hasn't been used by pupils since the summer, and it had due to be closed for good in the spring.

Pupils with behavioural problems had been taught there - but there have been no kids there since the summer.

Detective Inspector David Howieson said: "The building has been extensively damage and it goes without saying that this could have been a much more serious incident. Thankfully no one was injured. We urge anyone who saw anything or has any knowledge which may assist our enquiries gets in touch with us on 101 quoting incident number 3979 of 13/11."
